LINQ [Concept]
OVERVIEW
During my User Experience Certification course, I chose to work on an App expanding on the MedicAlert ID bracelet premise. The concept of this app stemmed from an incident where my father, who suffers from early on-set vascular dementia, went missing. It is an App that works in conjunction with a wearable [watch] which remotely monitors real time health vitals and/or location of the wearer, alerting caregivers [administrator] of abnormalities. With these notifications, the caregiver can immediately follow up and take action as required.
RESEARCH
Although healthcare wearables, medical ID bracelets and smart watches were readily available, an app that directly links the wearable to a caregiver [administrator] in real time, was non-existent. Identifying the target market and understanding the needs of the user helped to determine the functionality of the app.
Target Market
Beneficial to those who have or are currently experiencing and living with the following: strokes, seizures, epilepsy, diabetes and minor brain injuries. Also beneficial to seniors and people with special needs who live independently or have some form of independence.
Key Features
Determining what features of the app were most crucial or significant to the wearer:
A. 1-Blood pressure [increase/decrease]
2-Heart rate [spike/drop]
3-Movement tracker [lack of]
4-Location tracker [inside/outside of designated safe zones]
B. Customizable set points for notifications/alarms for the key features
C. Customizable data tracking and downloadable reports
Design Features
1-Ensuring the iconography represents the Key Features easily and clearly
2-Proper placement of the Key Features
3-Strong, legible typography
4-Contrasting colour palette to differentiate between Key Features, text fields and information throughout
STRATEGY
My approach to the app is a clean design, simple navigation throughout, taking into consideration the state-of-mind of the user, should an emergency take place–eliminating unnecessary steps and allowing the user to complete their task with accuracy and in a timely manner.
The following is a sample of the deliverables including site map, low and high fidelity wireframes with annotations, user journey and prototype.

FIDELITY DESIGNS
PREDICTED OUTCOME
• Decline in wearer related incidents including death
• Decrease in false emergency response calls linked to wearers
• Decrease in emergency room visits from wearers
• Relieve emergency resources [police, fire, medical personnel] for actual emergencies
• Increase in administrators addressing minor medical alerts [preventing medical/physical needs and demands from escalating]
• Increase of independence from administrator and wearer [if applicable]
• Increase in positive state of mental health of the wearer
